    THE BALD HEAD CHALLENGE

For the last photowalk for the year we decided to take on the fairly challenging 12.5 kilometre trek out to Bald Head in the Torndirrup National Park.

Hill #1 completed, many more to go.

Ten members turned out at 8am on Sunday morning and we set out on the newly installed non-skid walkway which eventually came to an end and from then on it turned into a bit of a goat track with steep climbs and descents.

The view over King George Sound was spectacular and there were still quite a few late season wildflowers about which added an extra touch of colour to the surroundings.

Our destination is at the end of the peninsular.

The weather was extremely pleasant and we all agreed that this would not be a walk that you would want to attempt in the height of summer.  We all had our usual bush fly companions who seemed to enjoy the free ride and the opportunity to suck up a little moisture from whatever body part they could.

The terrain is a mixture of granite and limestone outcrops interspersed with sandy tracks that can be a little soft underfoot.

On any walk of this difficulty it is essential that you don't take unnecessary risks or push yourself past your limits and four of our members wisely called time before there was any cause for concern.

It's a walk that we all agreed is correctly described as difficult but is one that is must for the well equipped and fit walker as the scenery is just magnificent.
