  HAPPY 40th VANCOUVER ARTS CENTRE

Statistically, Albany has double the number of artists per head of population than any other centre in Western Australia.   The Vancouver Arts Centre is an important local community hub for the arts and crafts and plays a vital role as a focal point for artistic pursuits of all descriptions.

ACE has been a resident group there for around five years and the VAC has played a key role in way we have been able to successfully develop and grow our club.

On Saturday we celebrated the 40th anniversary of the conversion of the old Albany Hospital to an art centre which has been an outstanding success in every way.

Along with the display of cameras made from the old sheoak roof tiles in the Dixon wing, we invited visitors to have a look at our newly set up studio and see how we differ from the traditional camera club model.
A few studio lights were set up at one end of the room and we challenged anyone who was willing to front up to the camera to have their portrait taken for free.

There was quite a lot of interest in the items we had on display which represented photography from yesterday and today which brought up some interesting discussions as they always do.

It's interesting to wonder what will be on display in another forty years time.
