GETTING READY FOR THE VANCOUVER ARTS CENTRE 40TH ANNIVERSARY

Our camera club has been a resident art group at the Vancouver Art Centre for a number of years and it's been productive relationship providing many positive opportunities.

ACE has always had a community focus and being at the VAC has enabled us to be involved in many local events and activities and we're pleased to be taking part in the 40th Anniversary celebrations on Saturday the 17th of October.

Recently the aging roof on the building was replaced and the resident art groups were offered the old shingles to see what they come up with for inclusion in an exhibition at the centre.

Having quite a bit of experience in pinhole camera construction  our club chose to put together a few cameras and use them to take photos for a print exhibition.

Looking at the well weathered shingles you'd think that they would make excellent firewood but sand away the layers and the beauty of the sheoak is revealed looking as good as the day it was cut.

In keeping with the organic theme of the camera build we have process the paper negatives in coffee which. as it turned out, was equal, if not better than the results found in using commercial developers.
