THE FIRST 'YOUTH in FOCUS'
WORKSHOP A GREAT SUCCESS.

The rising median age of many clubs is something that we should all be giving serious consideration to if we're going to ensure that our organisations aren't in danger of 'greying out'.

The City of Albany approached us recently to see if our club was interested in running photography workshops specifically aimed at young people as mentioned in our previous article and today was the final of our first four week event.

Since the beginning, our club has actively discouraged competition and I think this has helped us develop a mindset that reinforces the importance of community, and the satisfaction of sharing skills with the younger generation, and it's been a great opportunity to do something practical.

From our point of view we've been really impressed by the way everyone took to the 'minimal rules' format of the workshops which place the emphasis on creativity and thinking outside the square.

This has been a trial run and obviously we're going to be carefully analyzing the results and making the necessary modifications to the program to ensure we're right on track to obtaining the very best outcomes for all concerned.

The natural talent and enthusiasm that these young people have displayed gives me a lot of confidence that we have no end of emerging photographic talent, and as a club, we're really glad to have had the opportunity to make a small contribution to their progress.

Looking forward to series two in November.
