ACE DONATES A CAMERA
Our club recognises the importance of encouraging young photographers and just how much it costs to purchase a good quality camera.
Katie came along to one of recent 'Youth in Focus' workshops and we could help but notice her eye for the unusual angle and the enthusiasm she had for learning photography.

Having to rely on a basic 'point and shoot' camera was seriously restricting her development as a photographer and it was plain to see that she would benefit greatly from upgrading to a DSLR.
She had set her mind to saving up but we wondered if any of our members had a camera that they no longer used and would like to see it go to someone who could really benefit from its use.

The word went out to club members and in no time we had a very nice Nikon D40 with an 18 to 55mm lens with charger and memory card.
We needed a camera bag and the club was able to purchase one which was just the right size for Katie to carry everything around in her bike basket.
We invited Katie along to our studio on the pretense that we were wanting to do some portrait work with her as the model.
Half way through we swapped cameras and asked if she thought she might do a lot better with a 'real' camera.
We hung the Nikon 'round her neck and told her, "now you have one".
It was obvious from her excitement that this was going to be a a bit of a life changing moment.
Thanks to members Mike Lyons for the D40 body and Warren Lilford for the 18-55mm lens.
That was a very generous donation that's going to provide a long term benefit to a young photographer who does a lot of voluntary work in the Albany community and was recently recognised with a Community Champion' award.
