MEET THE LOCALS

During our trip to Nyabing we had the pleasure of meeting Peter, still actively farming sheep at 90 years of age.

Having farmed in the area for his entire working life he was an absolute mine of information and stories and could rattle of events as if they happened yesterday.

He knew the cost of farm machinery that was bought in the late 30's and named the previous owners as well as stories of how some of these less sophisticated pieces of early agricultural equipment could prove very dangerous in the wrong hands.

Peter is quite proud of the fact that he was still shearing at the ripe old age of 85 and by the looks of him could still whip off a few fleeces if he had to.

Hearing how farmland was cleared in the early days with just teams of horses and an axe really brought home how horrendously difficult life must have been for them.
It certainly did breed tough old buggers and Peter is a great example of, not only the physical, but the mental strength and tenacity the results of which we all benefit from today.

Our club really enjoyed taking our photographic exhibition out to the country and hope that this may be the first of many and that we are lucky enough to meet more of the local characters.
