  FAREWELL 2020 - WE WON'T MISS YOU!

I think everyone is looking forward to the end of 2020 and a hope that 2021 will see the continued relaxation of covid-19 restrictions.  Unfortunately we have a small section of the population that doesn't regard this as important so we can only hope that they realize they have a responsibility to the rest of the community to follow the rules so we can all get back to normal asap.

Practicing social distancing at our first meeting
after restrictions eased.
There has been and there still is, quite a few restrictions that affect club operations but there have also been a huge number of opportunities for change that are proving to be highly beneficial.   I have to say that as an early adopter of technology, I have been disappointed at the slow uptake of new, efficient and effective ways of doing things.    Resistance to change is something like a lead weight around a swimmers ankles and we all know what the likely outcome will be if we don't take the appropriate action.

Connected

From the club perspective we need to embrace change, especially when it has the potential to add value to what we offer to our members in the way of services and facilities.   A good example is ZOOM which enables us to communicate remotely with members and guests no matter what their location.    This has the potential to really enhance learning opportunities and reduce social isolation.    Our club recognises the importance of communication and is prioritising the continued development of our social infrastructure building program.

At the end of 2020 we would  like to thank the City of Albany, the Vancouver Arts Centre and the Bendigo Bank for the support they have provided to our club through their community rebuilding programs.

This has provided the essential support we need to make on-going changes to the structure and security of our club which in turn enables us to continue to support the Albany community through our many shared collaborations.
