Moodich Yorgas Yundarn Yarns
The Vancouver Arts Centre is really buzzing with a series of workshops spread over two weeks where anyone can try their hand at weaving natural fibres into artworks under the guidance of local Aboriginal artists.
Yarns not only applies to the work being done but you can also hear about some of our rich local indigenous history as the artists recount engaging stories about their lives and culture.

I've been quite amazed at the creativity shown by so many of the participants whose work is being tied to a network of grape vine cuttings that spans the ceiling area of the Main Gallery at the centre.
We've set up our studio to take portraits of some of the elders and those who have created some amazing works of natural art in the traditional style.
There has been so many positive comments about how this workshop has opened up a whole new way of making decorative art objects with not one bit of plastic being used and I'm sure this will inspire many to continue coming up with all sorts of creative and inspiring ways to use natural fibres..
Probably the most important aspect has been the way that we've all gained a much greater insight and appreciation of our indigenous art and culture.
This can only be seen as among the most important workshop events ever held and the Vancouver Arts Centre.
Great work from everyone involved.
