The 2017 Albany Agricultural show
"The Story of Wool 2"

Earlier in the year the Vancouver Arts Centre featured a very popular exhibition entitled The Story of Wool which included work by a number of resident artists of the VAC.

Shortly before, some club members had taken a photographic exhibition up to the town of Nyabing and while there we had the opportunity to visit some local farms just in time for shearing.

The timing couldn't have been better as shortly after returning the VAC called for expressions of interest in working together on a project highlighting the wool industry which included the history of the now closed local wool processing plant.

A selection of photographs were submitted and 60 were chosen to be printed on 12 vertical banners by Gallery Works in Albany.

The prints were hung in the main gallery of the VAC and formed quite an impressive display that demonstrated the hectic pace of life in the shearing shed which most of us don't get a chance to see.

The display was assembled once again at the new Albany Agricultural Show wool pavilion which tied in nicely with the wool industry theme.

There was plenty of interest in our display and those of the spinners and weavers who were on site demonstrating their craft.

Thanks to the Nyabing Historical Society, the local sheep farmers, the shearing gangs, Curators Annette and Tess, our photographers and all the talented groups who worked so well together to for such a outcome.
I'm sure there will be more to come.
