HOMELESS IN ALBANY
Our camera club had a building in Stirling Tce for a club room for a short time and Mick lived in a carport on the side of the building.
We got to know Mick fairly well and often brought out a cup of coffee and a snack when we were in the building.
Many people dropped of food and goods to him but he seemed to prefer the outdoor life as hard as this must have been, especially during Winter.
About 3 weeks before his passing, I found him enjoying some Winter sun and a cigarette in a local park and asked if I could take his photo.
He was more than happy and turned out to be a bit of a poser and I think enjoyed all the attention.
Sadly, Mick had a son in Bosnia whom he never knew as he left to start a new life in Australia soon after he was born and lost touch with his family.
It was only after his death that people made contact and emailed in their stories and photos of Mick.
We all hope that Micks story has raised awareness of the homeless in our city and that more services and care can be delivered whenever possible.
From the sadness of his passing let's hope from now on that we all may be able to do a little to help the less fortunate where we can.
