A bit of Albany's photographic history

Ed Smidt's tripod

Ed Smidt (1946-2010) was a prominent Albany photographer who spent more than three decades documenting life and events for the Albany Advertiser and after retirement, continuing with his love of photography and sailing.
He has left an outstanding collection of photographs and has made an amazing contribution to the recording of Albany's rich, photographic history.

AFUG, as well as being interested in film photography is also very passionate about saving and preserving old photographic equipment especially if it has some historical connection to the Albany area.
A few weeks ago we were asked if we would like a few of  Ed's tripods and we were more than delighted to accept them and add them to our collection.

Left, is a photograph of the larger tripod complete with a Dymo label with Ed's name on it.
A piece of Albany history that we will preserve and will be a part of our display material.
